EARLY YEARS
Hakeem Seriki (his real name) was born on November 28, 1979 in Washington. His father was Muslim and his mother professed the Christian religion. He grew up in a strict family and was the oldest of four siblings. Hakeem’s family relocated to Houston when he was 4 years old.
In his teenage years, Seriki held multiple jobs to help his family. He worked at a temping agency, transported blood and urine for a medical lab, distributed leaflets and promoted clubs. RAP CAREER
Despite his family’s disapproval, Seriki and his friend Paul Wall engaged in rapping. Once, they got acquainted with a mixtape DJ Michael “5000” Watts, who owned the Swishahouse label. He invited the boys to rap on his radio show on station KBXX-FM.
Their performance immediately caught the attention of locals. Soon, Seriki and Wall released a tape of their recordings and joined Swishahouse on a regular basis. It was then that Seriki adopted the stage name Chamillionaire (combination of “chameleon” and “millionaire” words). He, along with Wall, formed the group The Color Changin’ Click. In 2002, they created the album Get Ya Mind Correct, which sold 150,000 copies. The musicians performed at the SXSW music festival two years later.

Hakeem did not release his third album, Venom, because he left Universal Records in 2011. His first independent EP, Ammunition, saw the world in March 2012, followed by the albums Elevate and Reignfall a year later.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Chamillionaire is not only a musician but also a businessman. In 2003, he invested in Fly Rydes, a car dealer in Houston. It specializes in car customization, which involves adjusting the car’s interior to the individual preferences of the driver, creating a unique expression of their personality during each trip. There are almost no limits, from customized dashboard layout to adjustable seat configurations. Big Ernest became Hakeem’s business partner.
After the rapper stopped his cooperation with Swishahouse and Paid In Full Entertainment, he founded the Chamillitary Entertainment label in 2004. It allowed him to create his own projects and support other like-minded talents.
